This project, under the direction of Winfried Ritsch, aimed on a software emulation for a musical instrument, that recently became extinct. To enable the Klangforum Wien to perform Helmut Lachenmann’s piece “Mouvement - vor der Erstarrung”, we modeled three exemplars of a toy piano (“Pingu Konzert”), of which type no functional device is existent anymore. Our goal was to create an instrument that behaves and integrates into the ensemble just like the original physical instrument. The sound was played back by a specifically designed tetrahedron loudspeaker.
